Spotify to Reserve Tickets for Top Fans to Boost Engagement

2 Min Read

Spotify is offering top fans a chance to purchase tickets for upcoming shows. This strategy is designed to encourage users to engage more with the platform to qualify as top fans. The exact criteria for being a “real fan” are not provided, though it will involve monitoring streams, shares, and other activities, ensuring these aren’t artificially inflated using bots or AI.

Spotify emphasizes that more superfans will exist than there are available seats on tours, meaning not all fans will get offers. Only verified fans receive invites, aiming to reduce scalper interference. Eligible fans will receive emails and in-app notifications to buy two tickets, with a dedicated day-long window. These fans must be 18 or older and located in the U.S., required to purchase through a partner site despite Spotify facilitating the sale.

Ticket purchase options include any show on a tour, with choices for date, location, and seats varying in availability. Starting this summer, Spotify will reserve tickets for select artists’ tours, expanding the program to encompass tours of various sizes.

Recently, Spotify integrated features for live event discovery, such as following specific venues and discovering nearby concerts. Previously, the platform experimented with selling tickets directly in 2022 but now employs a partner model, having facilitated over $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists.
