Destiny 2’s final update will be released on June 9th, and the game will continue to be playable afterward. Bungie announced that this last major update marks a shift in focus towards new beginnings for the studio. After this release, Destiny 2 will remain accessible, similar to the first Destiny. Bungie aims to make Destiny 2 a welcoming place for returning players with this final update. More details about this update will be shared closer to its launch, and weekly blog entries will also take a break. Bungie initially released Destiny in 2014 and Destiny 2 in 2017. Though Bungie plans to stop major updates for Destiny 2, they continue in the live-service space with the game Marathon, released earlier this year. Bungie hints at working on a new project outside the Destiny universe, expressing excitement about exploring future opportunities. Sony acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion in 2022. Despite some struggles, including layoffs and delays, the studio maintains a commitment to creating exciting games.
