Adobe unveiled the Firefly AI Assistant, a conversational agent designed to manage tasks across several Adobe applications using natural language. Named Project Moonlight during development, it’s set to enter public beta soon. It integrates with third-party models, including Anthropic’s Claude, and retains context over time. Adobe also introduced Firefly Image Model 5, Custom Models, and Project Graph, a workflow system. The launch coincides with CEO Narayen’s upcoming departure and the firm’s competition with Canva and Figma.

Adobe’s Firefly AI Assistant functions as an orchestration layer that simplifies multi-application workflows by understanding user intent and executing tasks across Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Illustrator, Express, and Frame.io. This system minimizes manual transitions between applications, optimizing creative processes.

In addition to Firefly AI Assistant, Adobe is introducing Firefly Image Model 5 and expanding Firefly Custom Models for image generation and customized visual style training. Project Graph, a node-based visual system, allows users to create and automate workflows across Creative Cloud, connecting AI models and Adobe tools.

As Adobe undergoes a leadership transition with CEO Shantanu Narayen stepping down, the company faces challenges in adapting its subscription model to AI-native tools amid market competition. The Firefly AI Assistant signifies Adobe’s strategic shift towards integrated, conversational creative software, aiming to redefine how creative professionals interact with tools.
