AirTrunk, the Asia-Pacific data centre operator owned by Blackstone, is acquiring Lumina CloudInfra, an India-focused data centre developer, marking its entry into a rapidly growing digital infrastructure market. The acquisition provides access to Lumina’s development pipeline, customer contracts, and operational capabilities, with a planned capacity of approximately 600 megawatts across India’s major cities, indicating a $5 billion development potential. Financial terms remain undisclosed.

Both AirTrunk and Lumina are Blackstone entities, with Lumina launched in 2022 as an India-focused hyperscale data centre platform. Blackstone acquired AirTrunk for A$24 billion in 2024. This consolidation gives AirTrunk an entry into India without involving a third party, providing existing land positions, customer relationships, and a management team familiar with the local market.

After the acquisition, AirTrunk will be present in six markets—Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India—with a combined portfolio exceeding 3 gigawatts of planned capacity across 20 campuses. Lumina’s 600MW pipeline is distributed across India’s Tier-1 cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Delhi/NCR, and Hyderabad.

Lumina’s CEO Sujeet Deshpande described the deal as merging local strength with global platforms. AirTrunk’s CEO Robin Khuda emphasized India’s significance in hyperscale and AI infrastructure, with the acquisition enhancing their ability to meet customer demands in the APAC region.

Peng Wei Tan from Blackstone highlighted this consolidation as reinforcing their commitment to digital infrastructure, positioning the company to address rising demand across Asia-Pacific’s economies. India’s data centre market has seen considerable international investment, with Blackstone previously committing around $11 billion through Lumina.

This integration gives India investments access to AirTrunk’s global resources, customer network, and Blackstone’s capital, focusing on capability consolidation rather than a mere financial transaction.
