Apple plans to focus on privacy with the introduction of an updated Siri version at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The Siri update is seen as a significant opportunity for Apple to reaffirm its position in the artificial intelligence sector. Executives are expected to highlight a more privacy-conscientious approach compared to other AI firms, Gurman noted.
Apple is said to be launching an independent Siri app, powered by Google Gemini, aiming to provide a chatbot experience akin to ChatGPT. However, this app is anticipated to impose greater restrictions on the duration user data can be used and held.
For instance, Siri might incorporate a function like the Messages app, enabling users to automatically erase conversations after 30 days or a year — or to retain them indefinitely, Gurman mentioned.
Gurman also indicated that Apple’s focus on privacy might be a strategy to justify Siri’s limitations compared to rivals — possibly overshadowing the fact that Google manages some security aspects.
