Welcome to your essential guide for Pips, the newest addition to the New York Times game collection. Launched in August 2025, Pips offers a unique twist on dominoes, turning it into an engaging single-player game that might become your next daily pastime.

Currently, the game allows revealing the full puzzle only, making you advance to the next difficulty and start afresh. But don’t worry! We’ve provided incremental hints to help you solve each difficulty level.

How to play Pips

If you’ve played dominoes before, you’ll find Pips familiar. As detailed in our previous hints for Pips, the tiles are aligned vertically or horizontally and connect with one another. However, unlike traditional dominoes, Pips includes color-coded conditions. It’s not necessary for adjacent tiles to match.

Each color-coded area has specific conditions to fulfill. For instance, if a single number is provided, every side of a tile within that space must collectively meet that number. It is common for only part of a tile to occupy a color-coded area.

Common conditions across levels include:

– Number: All pips in this space add up to the number.
– Equal: Each domino half in this space has the same number of pips.
– Not Equal: Each domino half in this space has different numbers of pips.
– Less than: Each domino half in this space adds up to less than the number.
– Greater than: Each domino half in this space adds up to more than the number.

Areas without color-coding impose no conditions on the segments of dominoes within them.
