Aviation Cybersecurity with Serge Christiaans

1 Min Read

The urgency of aviation cybersecurity is rising as modern aircraft increasingly depend on advanced digital systems for navigation, communication, and engine performance. Previously isolated, these systems are now interconnected, making them susceptible to cyber threats like GPS spoofing and ransomware attacks on airline infrastructure. As both nation-state actors and criminal groups become more sophisticated, the aviation sector encounters a rapidly growing attack surface with potentially life-or-death implications. Addressing these risks is crucial for ensuring passenger safety and the resilience of global transportation networks.

Serge Christiaans, a former Dutch Air Force pilot with expertise in electronic and hybrid warfare, later flew commercially for Singapore Airlines. He is now the Lead Instructor and Program Director at the Aviation Cyber Academy. He appears on the podcast with Gregor Vand to discuss the intersection of aviation and cybersecurity, viewing aircraft as digital attack surfaces, hybrid warfare, and the critical need for aviation cyber resilience, among other topics.

Gregor Vand is a security-focused technologist and has served as a CTO for cybersecurity, cyber insurance, and general software engineering companies. Based in Singapore, he can be reached via his profile at vand.hk or on LinkedIn.
