Bluesky is enhancing its social network to improve photo posting. The company announced a new app version (1.121) that enhances image quality by increasing upload size and resolution. The photo upload limit has increased from 1MB to 2MB, and render resolution is now up to 4000px instead of 2000px. The image grid has been replaced with a swipeable carousel that accommodates mixed aspect ratios without cropping. Some users prefer having a choice between a grid or carousel display. These updates could make Bluesky’s app more competitive with networks like X or Meta’s Threads, the latter of which is praised for its support of various aspect ratios and unique carousel display. Threads’ innovations led to the development of a standalone app to post panoramic photos, although it supports a larger image size not detailed in its documentation.
