Since last year’s recall, there have been 28 additional incidents reported, including a fire and explosion on a plane. Casely initially recalled over 429,000 of its 5,000mAh Power Pods wireless power banks in April 2025 after 51 reports of lithium-ion batteries overheating, expanding, or catching fire, causing six minor injuries. The company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission are reannouncing the recall today due to 28 new reports of overheating. This includes a serious plane incident and the death of a 75-year-old New Jersey woman who suffered burns and later died from complications following an explosion. The recalled power banks were sold online from March 2022 to September 2024 for $30 to $70, identifiable by Casely branding and model number E33A. Casely offers free replacements that can be requested through the company’s website by submitting photos of the model number and the word “recalled” written on the power bank. Consumers should stop using the recalled Power Pods power banks immediately and dispose of them safely at local facilities equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries. They should not be trashed, recycled, or placed in used battery boxes at electronics retailers.
