ByteDance, a global tech company, operates various content platforms and is notably known for TikTok. The company runs over a million servers with containerized applications, requiring a high-throughput, stable networking solution for its data centers. To address these needs, ByteDance utilized eBPF, a technology for reprogramming the Linux kernel dynamically and safely, to create a decentralized networking solution enhancing efficiency, scalability, and performance.

Chen Tang, a ByteDance engineer, contributed to redesigning the company’s container networking stack using eBPF. He appeared on a show with Kevin Ball, discussing eBPF’s capabilities and its applications at ByteDance.

Kevin Ball, also known as KBall, is the VP of engineering at Mento, an engineering coach, and co-founder of two companies. Additionally, he founded the San Diego JavaScript meetup and organizes an AI discussion group.
