Over recent months, Figma has partnered with OpenAI and Anthropic to integrate support for AI CLI tools like Claude Code and Codex, enabling users to utilize these coding environments alongside its design software. The company is now incorporating its AI capabilities through a new AI agent that functions within its collaborative canvas.
Figma states that users can use natural language prompts to have its new AI agent generate new designs, edit existing ones, or automate tasks such as creating iterations of existing designs. Users can also activate multiple agents to perform various tasks simultaneously.
The AI assistant is said to have an understanding of design contexts and elements, as it operates on AI models fine-tuned for design purposes.
“As building software becomes easier, the focus shifts to setting direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, what the experience should feel like. Teams can now collaborate with agents on the multiplayer canvas to test ideas, visualize edge cases, and refine concepts together without overemphasizing tedious parts,” stated Figma’s chief design officer, Loredana Crisan.
The agent is initially launching in Figma Design, with plans to eventually extend it to Figma’s other products. Over time, Figma aims to merge design and code more closely within its applications.
Amid intense competition from companies like Canva, Adobe, Flora, Krea, and Dessn, Figma acquired node-based design tool Weavy last year, adding new image editing features to its offerings.
The company continues to perform well despite concerns about AI impacting designers’ work and the demand for their software: In the first quarter of 2026, Figma reported revenue of $333.4 million, marking a 46% increase from the previous year.
