This week, communication with Gemini has advanced once more.
Essential information
- An update is being deployed by Google Home for its early access “Gemini for Home,” enhancing the AI with “Continued Conversations.”
- This highly sought-after feature allows Gemini to “recall” previous discussions and keeps the device’s microphone active for a few extra seconds, enabling users to elaborate on their queries.
- Recently, Gemini for Home has improved its AI with enhanced music features for songs and playlists, along with better comprehension of casual dialogue.
While early access phases can be challenging, Google mentions that these tests have provided extensive feedback, leading to the implementation of a “top request” this week.
Revealed this morning (Apr 21), Google announces that Gemini in Home is obtaining a much-anticipated feature this week that enhances its conversational capabilities. The main objective of this feature is to prolong the dialogue, aptly named “Continued Conversation.” This update allows the AI to maintain more “context.” According to Google, in contrast to the previous Assistant (farewell, Assistant), Gemini “remembers” your conversation history for improved follow-up questions and answers.
Users will observe that after saying “Hey Google” and making their initial request, Gemini’s microphones will remain active for a few moments longer. Furthermore, the lights on your smart home devices will pulse, indicating the extended conversational context period, allowing Gemini to be prepared for any subsequent queries.
The announcement also notes that Continued Conversation is accessible to everyone in the household, including visitors. Additionally, it has been equipped with multilingual support, as other regions will receive it this week, alongside the U.S.
Moreover, Gemini has been equipped with “side-talk” detection. Google indicates that this improvement enables the AI to better differentiate between general household conversation and a valid request. Users can activate Continued Conversation by following these steps: Home Settings > Gemini for Home voice assistant > Continued Conversation.
