Google Pics: A New Workspace Tool Positioned as a Major Canva Competitor

Suz Chambers, Director of Google Creative Lab, introduced the new Google Pics tool at Google I/O 2026. This addition to Google’s Workspace could potentially challenge Canva, offering features for photo editing, graphic design, and flyer creation. Google Pics, built on the AI platform Nano Banana, was demonstrated live, showcasing its capabilities to edit photos and create graphics—tasks also possible within Canva. The program is currently in testing, aiming to launch for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Canva remains free to everyone.
