Apple is poised to reveal major enhancements to Siri with the anticipated launch of iOS 27, set for June. A primary feature of this update is the debut of a new Siri Camera Mode, which aims to improve the functionality of one of the iPhone’s most frequently used apps.
### Siri Mode Arriving in the Camera Application with iOS 27
As reported by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is embedding artificial intelligence more thoroughly into the iPhone’s camera application. The new Siri Camera Mode will roll out alongside standard photo and video features, representing a significant shift in how users engage with the camera.
Gurman notes that the Visual Intelligence function, currently available via the Camera Control button and Control Center, will be incorporated directly into the camera application. This modification aims to enhance accessibility to AI functionalities for users. Visual Intelligence, which links with services like ChatGPT and Google Image Search, will see improvements in this new mode.
The overhaul of the camera interface will feature a new shutter button styled after the Apple Intelligence logo, while the existing Camera Control shortcut for Visual Intelligence will continue to be available, allowing users to access the feature with ease.
### Visual Intelligence Feature to Include Enhancements
The updates to the Visual Intelligence feature in iOS 27 will bring new functionalities, including the ability to scan nutrition labels on food packaging for dietary details and to input contact information by scanning pertinent data. This enhancement is designed to transform the camera into not just a means of capturing images, but also a useful assistant for daily activities.
Beyond these camera-specific enhancements, Apple is also preparing to revamp Siri across the entire system. This includes launching a standalone Siri application and developing a more interactive, chatbot-like experience. Siri is expected to handle multiple actions from a single command, simplifying user interactions.
Earlier this year, Apple partnered with Google to leverage Gemini models to improve Siri’s personal features and overall intelligence.
