A preliminary injunction has been granted against the government in favor of the ICE Sightings – Chicagoland Facebook Group and Eyes Up developer. Federal district court judge Jorge L. Alonso ruled that the Trump Administration violated the First Amendment by pressuring Facebook and Apple to remove ICE-tracking groups and apps. Plaintiffs Kassandra Rosado and Kreisau Group received a preliminary injunction. Judge Alonso referenced a 2024 Supreme Court decision that stated government officials cannot coerce private parties to suppress unfavorable views. The case involved Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem demanding Facebook and Apple to censor speech. Bondi previously claimed credit for taking down a group targeting ICE agents on X. Similar apps, like ICEBlock and Red Dot, were also removed from app stores following DOJ pressure. The government is expected to appeal, but the 2024 Supreme Court precedent poses a challenge for the Trump administration.
