macOS 27 to Implement User Interface Changes Following Tahoe Design Input

Apple is getting ready to implement a ‘slight redesign’ for the upcoming version of macOS, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The update will showcase a refinement of the Liquid Glass design aesthetic, smoothing out some of the rough areas seen in the Tahoe user interface.

This will seemingly involve adjustments to the application of transparency and shadows throughout the system, aiming to address user feedback regarding inadequate contrast when using Tahoe applications.

Per Gurman, the Tahoe version of the new design was somewhat incomplete. The macOS 27 follow-up will assist in realizing Liquid Glass on the Mac as the design team originally envisioned.

Here’s how Gurman outlines the current state in his newsletter:

> Indeed, the modifications to macOS are intended to ensure Liquid Glass appears the way Apple’s design team intended from the outset. Last year’s operating systems didn’t necessarily have design issues, I’ve been informed, but rather an incompletely developed implementation from Apple’s software engineering group.

From what it seems, if you dislike the concept of Liquid Glass overall, you likely still won’t appreciate macOS 27. However, if you have particular concerns with readability on Mac, such as issues with the transparency of sidebars, macOS 27 may introduce changes that could please you.

In addition to design adjustments, Apple will utilize macOS 27 as a chance to enhance software reliability and efficiency. Code optimization appears to be a recurring theme across the new operating system versions this year. Apple will probably inform users to expect improved performance and extended battery life following the update, similar to the marketing approach for iOS 12.

With regard to both macOS 27 and iOS 27, the major new feature will be the overhauled Siri with chatbot capabilities (driven by the more advanced Gemini-based models) alongside other minor enhancements supported by upgrades to Apple’s artificial intelligence platform. The Siri and Spotlight Search functionalities will also be integrated.

Apple will formally reveal the new operating systems during its WWDC developer conference on June 8.
