Previously viewed as mere fragments, these molecules are now considered part of much more complex carbon material, locked within Martian rocks. Curiosity recently conducted a groundbreaking experiment on a rock sample, revealing 21 different organic molecules, including seven new ones. This discovery, reported in Nature Communications, hints at Mars’ potential to preserve complex carbon compounds. While this doesn’t prove Mars was once habitable, it indicates past conditions capable of sustaining life-like compounds. Scientists discovered a nitrogen heterocycle and other compounds that suggest complex carbon structures once existed on Mars.
