The C 400 4MATIC offers abundant luxury. Mercedes-Benz introduces a crucial electric version of its C-Class, renowned in luxury compact sedans. Built on an 800-volt architecture for efficiency and distance, it promises a 762 km (473 miles) WLTP cycle range. Marketed as the sportiest yet smooth C-Class, it redefines their offerings. Historically, Mercedes’ “EQ” brand showcased EVs, yet the C-Class was gas, mild, or plug-in hybrids. The new model marks its pure electric debut.
Under the floor lies innovation, with quick 325 km (202 miles) charging via a 330kW DC station. The 360kW output translates to 483 horsepower, achieving 0-100km/h in around four seconds. Its bidirectional charging allows energy storage for devices or homes. Unusual for EVs, the C-Class has a two-speed rear axle, enhancing acceleration and highway efficiency.
A disconnect unit on the front motor saves energy during cruising, switching to rear-wheel drive when needed. The air suspension predicts road bumps using Google Maps and “Car-to-X” communication, adjusting damping pre-impact. MB.Drive Assist Pro offers approved “point-to-point” assisted driving, boasting Nvidia-powered AI chips to rival Tesla’s system.
Inside, the screen-dominated dashboard reflects Mercedes’ design trend. The 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen operates on Unity for graphics, with a star-lit panoramic roof transitioning from clear to opaque rapidly. Premium trims include Burmester 4D sound with seat-integrated speakers and stress-reducing massage functions. The infotainment system features AI assistants like ChatGPT, maintaining a non-Android base but supporting Google Maps’ “Electric Intelligence.”
An augmented reality display projects navigation and warnings to the driver. Over-the-air updates refresh the C 400 with driving and entertainment enhancements. Part of Mercedes’ EV expansion, it joins models like the GLC SUV, revamped EQS, and CLA sedan, affirming their commitment to electric power, despite reconsidering an all-EV future by 2030.
