Windows users will have options to shut down and restart without running updates. Microsoft is introducing changes to Windows Update for users on its Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, allowing them to delay updates for up to 35 days at a time. Last month, Microsoft announced changes to improve Windows 11 and address common complaints, including making updates less disruptive. Users can extend the pause end date indefinitely and reset to another 35-day window as needed. Updates will run as usual if not re-paused at the end of this period. The update changes also include more detailed titles for driver updates, specifying the device class such as display, audio, or battery. Windows 11 will offer options in the power menu to restart or shut down without updates and will allow skipping updates when setting up a new device. Microsoft is unifying the update experience to reduce the frequency of reboots, with updates downloading in the background before waiting for a coordinated installation and restart.
