Apple TV’s musical comedy [Schmigadoon!](https://tv.apple.com/show/schmigadoon/umc.cmc.1tqmf2znhr4oui4vo69ircyui?itscg=30200&itsct=tv_box_link&mttnsubad=umc.cmc.1tqmf2znhr4oui4vo69ircyui&at=1000l3cvR) garnered a dedicated audience but [was discontinued](https://9to5mac.com/2024/01/18/schmigadoon-season-3/) after two seasons. However, a [Broadway adaptation](https://9to5mac.com/2025/09/30/apple-tv-schmigadoon-was-canceled-but-now-its-back-as-broadway-musical/) has emerged as a success and received notable praise, as reflected in the Tony nominations announced today. This may spell positive prospects for a potential season 3 of Schmigadoon! on Apple TV.
## Schmigadoon! stage production leads nominations for new musicals at Tony Awards, igniting renewed optimism for Apple TV revival
The Tony Awards today revealed the nominees for Broadway’s premier honors of the year. Schmigadoon! [achieved an impressive 12 nominations](https://deadline.com/lists/tony-award-nominations-2026/), including Best Musical.
These 12 nominations outpace all other productions, except for The Lost Boys, which also received 12 nominations.
This serves as the latest confirmation of Schmigadoon!’s triumph beyond the canceled Apple TV series.
It also instills new hope that Apple may consider bringing the show back.
Cinco Paul, the creator of Apple TV’s Schmigadoon! and the stage adaptation, had previously disclosed that season 3 of Schmigadoon! is already scripted. From a [post on X](https://twitter.com/cincopedia/status/1748039173934874687?s=20) made when Apple canceled the series in 2024:
> I am saddened to inform you that Apple will not proceed with season 3 of Schmigadoon! The season is written (including 25 new songs), but we, unfortunately, won’t be producing it. […]
Paul then [suggested to Entertainment Weekly](https://ew.com/hear-new-schmigadoon-song-the-picnic-basket-auction-from-stage-show-8783566) last year that a revival of the show could be possible at some future date:
> There have been discussions about it. Most of the progress is within my heart, but I’m not letting go. I’m truly proud of the efforts put forth by everyone in the writers’ room, and I believe the fans would truly appreciate it. Take comfort in knowing that I have not lost hope and there are others who are fans of the show that would also love to see that occur. You never can tell; life is long.
If Schmigadoon! continues to thrive on Broadway and potentially secures the Best Musical award at this year’s Tony ceremony, Apple would have newfound motivation to revive the series.
While this may be largely hopeful thinking at present, I find myself cheering for the Broadway show’s achievements because I dream of witnessing season 3 of Schmigadoon! one day.
