With the introduction of the new screenless Google Fitbit Air tracker, Google has announced that the Fitbit app is being officially retired in favor of the Google Health app. In 2023, a transition began when Google required all new users to register for Fitbit using a Google account. This transfer for current users is set to conclude in May 2026, and any user who fails to transition their account by July 15, 2026, will have it deleted. This aligns with the anticipated shift, as Google takes over the experience through its branded application.
The Google Health app shares similarities with the Fitbit app, yet it is organized quite differently and introduces numerous new features. A key highlight is Google Health Coach, an AI component powered by Gemini, which was launched in public preview in October 2025 and will be available to all users now. It collects information about you through conversational language and even images, tracking your workouts and habits to support you in developing a suitable plan to attain your health and wellness objectives. If you’re using Google Fit, you’ll also get a chance to transfer your data, as that app will be discontinued and integrated into this new platform as well.
