The gay dating app Sniffies has been relatively quiet since its App Store incident. After launching an iOS app forcing users into a “Vanilla Mode” to meet Apple’s guidelines, the app was pulled with no word on its return. Now, Sniffies is introducing new features aimed at faster and more intentional connections. This move comes as Grindr faces criticism for pushing paid features and restricting basic functionality in hopes users will pay up.

Sniffies is designed for immediacy, not to upsell basic functionality. It’s about making connections quickly without paywalls. New features include “Cruiser Cards,” showing nearby active users in a scrollable carousel by their recent activity time, and “Into Filter” for finding users with similar preferences. “Position Icons” show sexual preferences directly on user avatars with emojis, allowing quick readability of compatibility.

Other updates like “Share a Spot” and “Share a Group” make meetups easier by allowing users to suggest meeting places or share event details directly in chat.
