The Xperia 1 VIII introduces a fresh design but will not be released in the US. The new phone features a square camera island, shifting from the longstanding vertical camera design since 2020. This model offers an improved telephoto camera and an AI camera assistant similar to Google’s Camera Coach. Unlike previous Xperia 1 models, it has a block layout for its lenses and a distinctive angular design, standing out from both Apple’s and Motorola’s recent designs. Available in black, silver, red, and gold (online exclusive), it includes enhancements like a larger telephoto sensor and improved processing features, despite losing continuous optical zoom. The updated camera system offers better image processing, and an AI assistant provides real-time suggestions. Additional upgrades include stereo speakers, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and sizable RAM and storage options, but limited OS support. Priced at £1,399/€1,499 and £1,849/€1,999, it will be available in Europe and Asia without plans for a North American launch.
