Sources: Anthropic may raise $50B at a $900B valuation

Investor interest in Anthropic has surged.

The developer of the Claude AI assistant has attracted numerous offers to raise new capital in the $50 billion range, valuing the company between $850 billion to $900 billion, according to several sources. Bloomberg and Business Insider had previously reported that Anthropic received offers at an $800 billion valuation, but the company hadn’t committed to fundraising at that time.

Anthropic faces pressure to secure additional funding, potentially its last private round before an IPO. A decision on the round’s size and valuation is expected at a board meeting in May, according to a source.

The round might raise $40 billion to $50 billion, but investor interest appears even greater due to the company’s rapid growth. An institutional investor willing to invest $5 billion still hasn’t secured a meeting with Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao, per a source.

Anthropic’s annual revenue run rate surpassed $30 billion this month, up from around $9 billion at the end of 2025. It’s currently nearing $40 billion, according to someone familiar with the financials.

Anthropic declined to comment.

A significant portion of revenue comes from AI coding capabilities through its Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Investors see potential for expansion into sectors like finance, life sciences, and healthcare.

Anthropic’s last round was raised at a $380 billion valuation in February. If the current fundraising proceeds as described, it would more than double its valuation, matching or surpassing its main competitor. In February, OpenAI closed a $122 billion round with an $852 billion post-money valuation.
