Spotify Challenges Google’s NotebookLM with New App

Spotify Challenges Google’s NotebookLM with New App

1 Min Read

Spotify has introduced a new standalone desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs, designed to create daily briefs by connecting services like email, calendar, documents, and notes. The app allows users to generate personalized podcasts that incorporate personal context and information from the web. A daily briefing or podcast can be created using one’s email and schedule. Users can make detailed requests such as planning a podcast for a road trip with recommendations and schedule walkthroughs.

These AI-generated podcasts are saved privately in Spotify libraries and synced across all devices. The app is in the early preview phase, and Spotify cautions that AI can produce unreliable content. The app is available in over 20 markets to users aged 18 and above.

The tool will compete with others like Google’s NotebookLM, which popularized podcast generation based on source material. Similar features have been adopted by Adobe, ElevenLabs, and apps like Hero and Huxe. The desktop app follows Spotify’s command-line tool for coders, now enabling non-coders to access similar functionalities.

Spotify aims to enhance its involvement in audio with potential future integrations and capabilities like a Granola-style notetaker similar to startups like Rewind and Cluely, focusing on meeting-note features.
