Windows 11 Explores Adjustable Taskbar and Resizable Start Menu

Windows 11 Insiders can now opt for a smaller taskbar. Microsoft’s latest test allows repositioning of the taskbar and resizing of the Start menu. The update, available to Insiders in the Experimental channel, lets you place the taskbar at the bottom, top, left, or right side of the screen. Microsoft first hinted at a movable taskbar in March to rebuild user trust. Insiders can adjust the alignment of the icons and access a shorter taskbar, useful for smaller displays. The Start menu can be set to “Small” or “Large.” The layout will soon be easier to adjust with new toggles to show or hide sections like “Pinned,” “Recommended,” and “All.” The “Recommended” section is being renamed to “Recent” to better reflect its content. Your name and profile picture can also be hidden from the Start menu. These features will roll out in the coming weeks to the Experimental Channel. Microsoft’s design director, Diego Baca, emphasized the importance of user trust in these changes.
