GLAAD’s annual report revealed a social media environment filled with anti-LGBTQ hate. Elon Musk’s X remains the most unsafe platform for LGBTQ+ users, according to GLAAD’s Social Media Safety Index (SMSI). The report assessed policies on diversity, content moderation, user suppression, and enforcement for Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, and TikTok. X scored 29 out of 100, with no platform exceeding 67. None received passing grades, with all encountering anti-LGBTQ hate and DEI rollbacks. Meta and YouTube’s updated policies were highlighted, and TikTok maintained its score of 56. GLAAD has issued these scores since 2021, and X has consistently received low scores. GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis criticized platforms for not prioritizing LGBTQ safety and urged advertisers to reconsider support.
