Amazon’s Alexa+ Feature Can Now Generate Podcast Episodes

2 Min Read

Amazon announced a new update to Alexa+ on Monday, enabling on-demand podcast episode generation. The feature, known as “Alexa Podcasts,” is now available to U.S. customers, allowing users to transform any topic of interest into a podcast episode within minutes.

To utilize this feature, users simply prompt Alexa+ to create a podcast on a topic of their choice. There’s no need to upload documents or script anything in advance. Alexa+ conducts research, collects information, and generates an episode overview. Users can then adjust the episode’s length, tone, and focus.

After finalizing, Alexa+ employs AI-generated host voices for narration. Users are notified when the episode is ready via their Echo Show and the Alexa app, with episodes saved in the app’s “Music” and “More” sections for future playback.

This update marks Amazon’s effort to expand Alexa+ beyond a traditional voice assistant into a personalized AI content creator. However, it may invite discussions on ethics, accuracy, and the status of traditional creators regarding AI-generated content. Concerns also arise over the reliability of AI-generated podcasts, especially for news and complex subjects.

Amazon stressed its collaborations with leading news organizations to enhance content accuracy and reliability. Alexa+ is said to access real-time information through partnerships with the Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, and others, including over 200 local U.S. newspapers.

Additionally, Amazon is examining other personalized AI audio forms, such as custom news briefings and content from users’ documents and shared data.
