Disney Unveils Three Fresh Features for Disney+ and Hulu Applications

2 Min Read

Disney+ and Hulu are moving towards a merger, with Disney recently unveiling new features for app users designed to improve the integration of both platforms. These enhancements are part of Disney’s approach to simplify access to Hulu content within the Disney+ application.

### New Features Launching

1. **Profile Linking**: Hulu users can now connect their profiles to Disney+, enabling them to transfer their viewing history, watchlist, and personalized recommendations into the Disney+ interface.

2. **Stream Hulu without Disney+ Account**: Hulu clients can access all Hulu content via the Disney+ app without needing a Disney+ subscription. This functionality is facilitated by a consolidated MyDisney login system.

3. **New Avatars**: Users can now select from a variety of Hulu avatars for their profiles in the Disney+ app, alongside the existing Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars-themed avatars.

Once profiles are linked, any titles viewed in the Hulu app will sync with the Disney+ app going forward, enhancing the user experience across both platforms.

### Upcoming Features

Disney+ is also preparing to pilot a new ‘Live Guide’ feature, inspired by Hulu, which will act as a central hub for discovering live content. This feature will include streams such as “ABC News Live” and “Disney+ Playtime” for all Disney+ users, along with ESPN networks for qualifying ESPN Unlimited subscribers.

### Future Integrations

Disney has suggested that more Hulu features, such as Live TV and various add-ons, will eventually be incorporated into Disney+. However, the Hulu app will continue to operate for now, with no current intentions to shut it down.

As these integrations develop, speculation persists regarding the possible creation of a Disney+ ‘super app’ that could cover a wider array of services beyond mere streaming.
