The Best Cases for the Switch 2 After Extensive Testing

The Best Cases for the Switch 2 After Extensive Testing

3 Min Read

Including cases that protect your Switch 2 while playing and others that keep it scratch-free during transit.

You might feel reluctant to encase your Switch 2 in protective gear after buying it with your hard-earned money. However, I find it liberating. It might detract from the sleek design, but a case ensures the console remains free of scratches and damage. I’ve tested various cases for the Nintendo Switch 2 since its 2025 launch, from simple shells offering scratch protection to carrying cases safeguarding the console when not in use.

Identifying the best case was quick, but I continue exploring new products, both from well-known brands and newcomers. There are suitable options for everyone and every budget.

In the near future, we expect to review Mechanism’s Basecase.

The Best Nintendo Switch 2 Cases: A buying guide

Testing Procedures:
We use each case as intended, following instructions for optimal fit and protection while identifying outstanding or subpar features. Although we don’t perform drop tests using personal consoles, we examine each case for weak points.

Foolproof Installation:
Case installation should be straightforward, not a hassle. Given the Switch 2’s hybrid design, a multi-step installation may be required, but it should consistently be an effortless process.

Perfect Fit:
Many gadget cases are created before the actual device releases, so I ensure the cases I test truly fit the Switch 2. Minor fit discrepancies are not tolerated.

Maintaining Unique Features:
Some cases require compromises, such as preventing Joy-Con 2 detachment, blocking the kickstand, or interfering with TV docking. These compromises are acceptable with prior knowledge, but ideally, cases shouldn’t block the unique features of the Switch 2, unless noted otherwise.

Though I have high standards for cases fitting the Switch 2 in use, carrying case standards are more lenient. They must protect the console and ideally offer extra value, such as pockets for cables or cartridge storage.

My Preferred Case:
I didn’t want to compromise; I wanted a case that excels for both handheld and docked modes. That’s why the Dbrand Killswitch is the best. It’s perhaps pricier than some may prefer, but the protection and versatility justify the cost.

Detailed review of the Killswitch is available, but briefly, it’s a protective, versatile option, albeit pricey.

Explore the Best Switch 2 Carrying Cases

Tomtoc’s FancyCase Slim has become my top zip-up case choice for the Switch 2. Ranging from $33 to $39, depending on your chosen style, it offers superior protection compared to PowerA or Belkin. It has less flexibility in the middle and features protrusions above the Joy-Con 2 analog sticks to prevent accidental pressure. Plus, it offers color options reminiscent of ice cream sandwiches.

Runners-up:
If you’re prepared to spend $100 on a carrying case, Belkin’s Charging Case Pro offers exclusive features.

Another premium option is WaterField Designs’ CitySlicker case for $129.

Conclusion:
The Killswitch is ideal for handheld use due to Joy-Con 2 removal and dock adapter inclusion, with kickstand access retained.

Alternative: The $29.99 Spigen Rugged Armor fits the Switch 2 like a glove, providing access to essentials and promoting ergonomics, although removing it before docking is necessary.

Update (May 21st): Verified product pricing and availability.

Disclosure: The Verge previously collaborated with Dbrand on skins and cases.
