The upcoming design overhaul later this year will reintroduce compact mode and provide more customization options.
Firefox is receiving a major visual update featuring a revamped Settings section aimed at making privacy settings, such as toggling AI features, easier to find and use. Dubbed “Project Nova,” the redesign, set to roll out later this year, includes rounded UI elements and a refreshed color palette inspired by fire, with updated icons for consistency across themes.
AI features in Firefox aren’t downloaded unless you choose to use them. However, if installed, it’s easier to manage them compared to Google Chrome’s 4GB download. Alongside the redesign announcement, Mozilla introduced support for the Web Serial API in Firefox 151, allowing websites to interact with devices without extra installs. This update also includes revamped home page designs, new wallpapers, and a PDF viewer that merges multiple PDFs.
The new design will bring back compact mode for condensing browser controls and enhance access to features like tab groups and split view. Project Nova will introduce more customization through new wallpapers and themes, applying color themes throughout the browser with both light and dark modes. Mozilla is also exploring controls for tab and UI element shapes.
