Commercial Directed by Michael Bay Launches Significant ’90s Advertising Campaign

Michael Bay boasts one of the most remarkable portfolios in Hollywood. From “Bad Boys” and “The Rock” to the comprehensive “Transformers” film series, Bay has contributed to some of the most thrilling and action-filled movies on the big screen. Indeed, there is an ongoing discussion about the financial cost of the destruction featured in Michael Bay films, and that estimate is likely in the trillions by now.

What is less commonly known, though, is that Bay played a crucial role in initiating one of the most memorable advertising campaigns in history. Before transitioning to film, Bay honed his skills as a director of music videos and commercials. In 1993, Bay was the filmmaker behind the very first “Got Milk” television advertisement. In doing this, Bay contributed to an award-winning advertising campaign that endured for over twenty years.

During a GQ interview a few years back, Bay reflected on how the legendary “Got Milk” advertisement came to fruition. Intriguingly, Bay wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about the project when it was first presented to him. In hindsight, Bay mentioned that directing a commercial for milk, of all products, simply didn’t seem very thrilling. Nevertheless, Bay consented to undertake the project. Remarkably, Bay succeeded in creating a milk commercial that was engaging, humorous, and, most importantly, unforgettable. If you were around to witness the commercial’s airing, you probably remember it being a significant topic of discussion at that time.
