Discord, the messaging platform giant, has activated end-to-end encrypted voice and video messaging for all users. This feature allows Discord users to communicate privately, ensuring that no one else, not even Discord, can listen in on their calls.
This marks a significant privacy achievement for the platform’s hundreds of millions of users, especially following social media giant Meta’s recent discontinuation of Instagram’s end-to-end encrypted messaging feature. Additionally, TikTok announced that it would not implement end-to-end encryption for user messages after becoming a U.S. company.
Discord initially introduced the end-to-end encrypted voice and video calling feature in 2024 and expanded it to all users, requiring no additional action from them.
“End-to-end Encryption is now standard for every voice and video call on Discord, outside of stage channels. No opt-in required,” stated Mark Smith, Discord’s vice president of core technologies, in a blog post.
