How to Use Google’s New AI Agents to Enhance Your Searches

2 Min Read

During the Google I/O 2026 keynote, Google introduced new capabilities in Search, allowing users to create, customize, and manage AI agents to stay updated on topics of interest. This shift is part of Google’s strategy to develop agentic AI systems that proactively assist with ongoing tasks instead of just answering single questions.

Google’s information agents operate continuously, keeping users informed about their interests without needing to search repeatedly. These agents synthesize data from various sources, explain significance, compare viewpoints, and offer action-ready insights. They evolve from Google Alerts, introduced in 2003, transcending basic notifications.

For example, an agent monitoring the stock market could focus on specific companies or trends, track market activity, summarize reports, alert users of significant changes, and provide summary links.

These agents also help with daily tasks such as tracking flight prices, monitoring sports, following breaking news, and observing housing or job markets.

To use the feature, users enter a prompt in AI Mode, like “Keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.’” Relevant updates trigger push notifications, and users can manage tracked topics in AI Mode history.

The information agents will launch this summer, initially for Google AI Pro and Ultra users in the U.S., with plans to expand to other markets.

Additionally, Google has announced a major redesign of Search, introducing an intelligent search box that supports long, conversational queries and a new AI-powered query suggestion system that surpasses traditional autocomplete for crafting detailed searches.
