The Lito X1’s obstacle-avoiding LIDAR sensor may appeal to amateur pilots considering an upgrade.

Following teasers and leaks, DJI officially announced its new entry-level Lito 1 and Lito X1 drones. Weighing less than 249 grams, they are exempt from registration requirements in many countries. Currently unavailable in the US, European prices start at €339 for the Lito 1 and €419 for the Lito X1.

Both drones come with DJI’s screenless RC-N3 controller, which uses a smartphone display, although you can’t use your phone to pilot them like the DJI Neo. They’re also compatible with other DJI controllers, including the RC 2, which comes with the X1’s €579 Fly More bundle, adding extra batteries.

Without permanent prop guards, the Lito 1 and X1 are more portable when folded but are mainly for outdoor use. Their top speed is 27mph, with the potential to reach 40mph. Equipped with sensors on the top and bottom for autonomous obstacle avoidance, the X1 includes an additional forward-facing LIDAR sensor for better precision, particularly in low light.

The Lito X1 has a 48-megapixel 1/2-inch sensor, larger than the Lito 1’s 40-megapixel 1/1.3-inch sensor. Both capture 4K video at 100fps in slow-mo, but the X1 offers 10-bit D-LogM for more post-production flexibility. The Lito X1 also features 42GB of built-in storage, whereas the Lito 1 relies on microSD cards.
