Dyson’s Handheld Fan is More Powerful and Louder Than Expected

Quieter alternatives to the HushJet Mini Cool exist, but you might not find a more powerful fan in such a pocketable size.

The HushJet Mini Cool by Dyson is a $99.99 handheld fan, ideal for relief from heat, although not ideal during quiet occasions due to its noise level despite its sleek design. It is slim and, though not as silent as its name suggests, is designed better than most on the market.

All of its components, including the motor and a 5,000mAh battery, are housed in a compact cylindrical body 38mm in diameter, making it easy to fit in a pocket. It weighs 208 grams, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, and has five fan speeds, including a Boost Mode for extra power.

The fan’s design helps it stand upright and an accessory is included to improve stability, though it’s easy to misplace. You can power the fan through USB-C on its lowest setting for endless use. Battery life can extend up to six hours at the lowest setting but lasts 62 minutes on the highest speed.

Dyson markets the fan as quieter, but it’s not as quiet as expected, especially compared to cordless vacuums or hair dryers. It has a notable high-pitched whine, despite its small motor spinning at a slower speed.

While there are quieter fans like Nitecore’s izzCool 10 Pro, Dyson’s model surpasses them in power, albeit with more noise. It can be comfortably used in louder environments on higher settings without drawing annoyance.

Though more potent than other compact air dusters like the Wolfbox MF100, it strikes a better balance of size, performance, and battery life, potentially lasting half a day at an amusement park. You might find quieter options, but few as powerful in this size.
