Epic Games has unveiled its Star Wars-themed Fortnite update for May, aligning with the launch of Fortnite on the iPhone in Japan. This update is crucial as it signifies the growth of Fortnite’s accessibility on iOS, following its comeback to the iPhone and iPad in the US last year. Epic Games is now focusing on expanding iOS access to more regions, with Brazil set for 2026.
The Epic Games Store mobile application has been officially released for iPhone users in Japan, providing access to Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. Nonetheless, the app is currently exclusive to iPhone users, as no third-party games are offered yet because of new fees and reporting requirements that create hurdles for developers.
In a significant development, Apple was forced to permit third-party app stores on iPhone in Japan, resulting in the emergence of competitors like AltStore PAL. This modification has created new opportunities for both developers and users.
Despite these progressions, Fortnite’s comeback to the Mac remains unclear. While the Epic Games Store can be accessed on macOS, Fortnite is not available for direct download. Players can only engage with the game via cloud gaming platforms like Nvidia GeForce NOW and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Epic Games has suggested that the absence of Mac availability is linked to Apple’s policies on third-party app marketplaces, indicating that a resolution might not arrive soon.
