Microsoft has appointed game industry analyst Matthew Ball as the Xbox chief strategy officer. Known for his annual video gaming report, Ball is highly regarded across gaming, media, and technology, as mentioned by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. In a memo seen by The Verge, Sharma announced Ball’s recruitment, highlighting his past roles at Illumination, Amazon Studios, and Accenture Strategy. Ball had been advising Sharma on Xbox strategy, following her appointment as Xbox chief 90 days ago. Additionally, Xbox has a new CTO, Scott Van Vliet, who spent over two decades in technology development. Van Vliet, previously involved with Azure AI infrastructure, will start after the Showcase. Chris Schnakenberg has also been promoted to corporate VP of partnerships and business development. These leadership updates follow recent appointments from Microsoft’s CoreAI division, as Sharma aims to strengthen Xbox’s future strategy.
