Google SynthID Expands to Chrome, Search, and ChatGPT: Right-Click to Verify AI Content

Have you ever thought, “Is that AI generated?” SynthID aims to clear up that uncertainty.

At Google I/O 2026, Google unveiled an expansion of its SynthID digital watermark initiative to help users identify AI-generated content. They also announced the addition of the Google DeepMind SynthID tool and C2PA content credential verification to Google Search and Chrome. This integration, now available in the Gemini app, enables users to verify whether images, audio, or videos are AI-generated.

Google has already watermarked over 100 billion images and videos, along with 60,000 years of audio. OpenAI, Kakao, and ElevenLabs will adopt SynthID, making it easier to tell if content, such as images from ChatGPT, is AI-generated.

SynthID and C2PA help users detect AI-generated content, with SynthID offering an invisible watermark and C2PA adding metadata. Together, they provide a robust verification system even if metadata is lost.

Google aims to make these tools widely accessible on Search and Chrome, allowing users to simply ask if content was generated with AI.
