“Ever wake up to find the First Lady asking for your termination? It happens, right?”
Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his Monday monologue following Melania Trump’s statement from the FLOTUS account, branding his words as “corrosive” and demanding ABC take a stand.
The controversy arose after Kimmel hosted a spoof “alternative” White House Correspondents’ Dinner, mocking Trump and his administration. The actual event was cut short after an armed individual attempted to enter the ballroom.
“I woke up to another Twitter storm and a call for my firing from Melania Trump over a joke I made five nights ago. It was a light roast, saying, ‘Our First Lady Melania’s here, so beautiful, Mrs. Trump you have a glow like an expectant widow,'” Kimmel explains in the clip. “It referenced the age difference, not assassination. They know that, and I’ve always spoken against gun violence.”

Kimmel shares he agrees with part of Melania’s point and offers advice:
“I agree we should reject hateful and violent rhetoric,” Kimmel states. “A good start would be discussing it with your husband.”
