Meta Revamps Cross-App Management System

Meta revealed an enhanced Meta Account system on Thursday, aimed at simplifying user sign-in and management of Meta accounts and devices. The Meta ecosystem’s growth has left users with multiple log-ins for platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta AI glasses. Despite the existing Accounts Center, the Meta Account system seeks further simplification, with rollout planned over the next year.

A Meta Account enables users to create a single password for all Meta ecosystem accounts, with optional Passkey protection using fingerprints, face recognition, or device passwords. Meta promises security recommendations for multi-factor authentication and login alerts across devices.

“Settings across Meta apps and devices can be managed through your Meta Account, akin to the Accounts Center,” stated the company. “Now, more settings like passwords, two-factor authentication, and associated email addresses can be centrally handled as they remain constant across apps.”

The Meta Account will aid parents in supervising teens’ app usage without switching apps. Through the Family Center on Meta Account, parents can manage Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta Horizon settings from one spot.

“App-specific settings are independently managed, allowing personalization,” Meta clarified. “Such choices are personal and exist within the individual apps.”

The Meta Account setup allows users to keep log-ins separate if preferred, and accounts can be added or removed at any time.
