OpenAI Unveils Enhanced Security for ChatGPT Accounts in Partnership with Yubico

1 Min Read

OpenAI is enhancing account security. The company launched Advanced Account Security, an optional protection for ChatGPT users, especially for high-value individuals, though available to all. Yubico has partnered with OpenAI to introduce two new security key products linked to ChatGPT accounts to combat phishing threats. These “co-branded” products are the YubiKey C NFC and YubiKey C Nano. AAS is recommended for political dissidents, journalists, researchers, and elected officials, and could be beneficial for enterprise users. Yubico CEO Jerrod Chong stated their goal is to significantly reduce unauthorized access threats to OpenAI accounts globally. Security keys are small hardware devices connected via USB ports, holding a unique cryptographic identifier that allows only the keyholder to access a linked account.

Potential phishing threats on ChatGPT accounts are a growing concern, as cybercriminals target chatbot users. Digital security is becoming a bigger focus for the AI industry, with recent developments like Anthropic’s new cybersecurity model Mythos and OpenAI’s own initiatives in digital defense. However, using security keys means that if they’re lost, OpenAI can’t help recover account access, potentially losing conversations permanently.
