OpenAI has announced GPT-5.5, their most advanced and user-friendly model yet, aiming to redefine computer-assisted tasks. Following the recent release of GPT-5.4, the new model showcases improvements in writing and debugging code, conducting online research, and managing work across various tools. OpenAI emphasizes GPT-5.5’s capability to handle unorganized, multi-part tasks by autonomously planning, using tools, and navigating ambiguity. The model also introduces enhanced security measures and uses fewer tokens for task completion in Codex. Starting Thursday, the model will be available to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise ChatGPT users, with a Pro version exclusively for Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. This launch intensifies OpenAI’s competition with Anthropic, who recently introduced Claude Opus 4.7 and Mythos Preview focused on cybersecurity. Both companies vie for dominance in AI coding and enterprise solutions as OpenAI shifts focus from minor projects to major revenue opportunities. Additionally, the release precedes the upcoming trial between Elon Musk and OpenAI leaders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, scheduled to commence Monday in Oakland, California.
