The launch of iOS 27 is just weeks away, and the buzz about new features is increasing. Here are the anticipated iOS 27 enhancements for two of the iPhone’s most utilized apps: Camera and Photos.
## Camera app introducing new Siri mode with visual intelligence
The iPhone’s Camera app is expected to incorporate a fresh ‘Siri’ mode in iOS 27. This will join the current modes like Photo, Video, Portrait, and Pano, allowing the Siri mode to integrate Apple’s visual intelligence features directly into the native Camera app.
At present, visual intelligence is a separate feature in iOS. You can access it by long-pressing the iPhone’s Camera Control or by adding a launcher to Control Center or your Lock Screen.
Visual intelligence enables you to utilize AI to gather information about whatever you are viewing. Besides the integration with the Camera app, at least two new functionalities are arriving for this feature.
As reported by Bloomberg, the Siri mode within the Camera will allow users to scan nutritional labels, quickly and effortlessly recording dietary information in Apple’s Health app. Moreover, there will be support for scanning a business card to store its details in the Contacts app.
## Photos app improvements
Apple’s Photos app is rumored to introduce three new AI-driven image editing features. According to Mark Gurman:
– **Extend**: Enables users to generate additional content beyond the original image frame. For instance, a close-up photo of a landmark could be enlarged to include the surrounding scenery.
– **Enhance**: Utilizes AI to automatically refine color, lighting, and overall image quality.
– **Reframe**: Primarily aimed at spatial photos, this feature allows users to alter perspective post-capture. For example, a photo of a car could be adjusted from a front-view perspective to highlight the side.
These features will complement the existing Cleanup functionality introduced in iOS 18. They are all expected to be powered by the new Google Gemini variant of Apple Foundation Models.
Additionally, a leak from last year suggested that the Photos app would gain enhancements for Collections in iOS 27. No additional specifics were provided, but there may be more significant changes in store for Photos.
