CarPlay by Apple now offers a new AI assistant named Grok for vehicle users. SpaceXAI, the AI division of SpaceX, announced on Friday that Grok’s voice mode is now accessible in Apple CarPlay. Earlier, Grok was present in CarPlay as merely a placeholder, but now users can tap the icon, initiate a voice chat, and converse with the assistant.

Grok’s availability comes after ChatGPT was introduced to CarPlay in April 2026. Initially, in February, Apple enabled support for AI chatbots in CarPlay. Unlike Tesla drivers who can activate Grok with the “Hey Grok” command, CarPlay users are required to launch the app manually before starting communication. Grok doesn’t perform commands on iPhone or inside the car but answers queries.

Tesla introduced this functionality in its latest “spring update,” although its availability differs by region.
