Zoom Collaborates with World to Authenticate Meeting Participants

1 Min Read

Zoom has partnered with World, Sam Altman’s human identification company, to verify that meeting attendees are human and not AI-generated fakes. This collaboration comes in response to increasing threats of deepfake fraud, highlighted by incidents such as Arup losing $25 million due to AI-generated impersonators on a video call. Financial losses from such fraud exceeded $200 million last year. Existing methods to detect deepfakes are becoming unreliable as video models advance.

World’s solution involves its World ID Deep Face technology, which verifies participants through three steps: a signed image from registration, a real-time face scan, and a live video frame. If all components align, a “Verified Human” badge is displayed. Hosts can activate a Deep Face waiting room for identity verification, and participants can request mid-call verification.

According to Travis Isaman, a Zoom spokesperson, this integration is part of Zoom’s strategy to incorporate trust into workflows. Sam Altman’s World is also partnering with companies like Tinder and Visa for human verification, recently launching tools to confirm humans behind AI shopping agents.
