Dubbed as “intelligent eyewear,” the anticipated smart glasses are set to launch later this year. During Google I/O 2026, a preview of the first smart glasses for Google’s Android XR platform was finally unveiled. Google and Samsung showcased new glasses, available this fall, created in collaboration with Warby Parker and luxury Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster. Although Google previously announced the release of Android XR smart glasses in 2026, this event provided a closer look at their design and features.

The glasses will feature integration with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, similar to Samsung Galaxy products. Having worked together on the Galaxy XR headset, Google and Samsung continue their collaboration. These “audio glasses” are distinguished from future “display glasses” with built-in lens displays.

Google’s VP of Android XR, Shahram Izadi, stated, “Intelligent eyewear marks a step forward in our vision with Samsung to make AI helpful and accessible.” Combining Google’s AI with Samsung’s hardware and Gentle Monster and Warby Parker’s design, the glasses promise a natural, hands-free connection.

Functionally, the glasses resemble Meta’s smart glasses, enabling tasks like cooking assistance and navigation through voice commands paired with a phone. Samsung supplied the hardware, and Google’s AI and Android XR platform power the features. Samsung describes them as a companion device to mobile phones, enabling voice interaction and seamless phone connection.

Despite lacking details on release dates and pricing, Samsung announced the eyewear is scheduled for launch in fall 2026, with more information forthcoming. Jay Kim, Samsung’s Executive VP, emphasized expanding the Galaxy ecosystem with unique AI experiences tailored to each form, considering the intelligent eyewear vital in Samsung’s AI vision.
