Google will offer tools that facilitate the use of AI agents, including Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and its own Antigravity or Gemini, within Android Studio to enhance Android app development.
At its annual Google I/O developer conference, Google announced that the Android CLI (command-line interface) has reached a stable version 1.0, allowing developers using AI agents to build apps regardless of their coding platform preference.
This initiative recognizes the increasing use of non-Google AI agents for Android development and aims to make the extensive features of Android Studio more accessible.
With Android CLI, AI agents can access information on Android development through a new “android studio” command, utilizing Android Studio’s capabilities for their projects. They will gain access to various commands and tools.
Google’s Antigravity platform will offer an optional package to add the tools and knowledge from Android CLI, enabling it to handle basic Android app development tasks, according to the company.
