At its annual Google I/O event on Tuesday, Google unveiled updates to the Gemini app, including a “Daily Brief” feature, a revamped interface, access to the new AI video model called Gemini Omni, and a personal AI agent named Gemini Spark. These updates aim to transform Gemini into an all-purpose AI hub, competing with platforms like ChatGPT and Claude.

The Daily Brief feature offers a personalized morning digest, compiling information from a user’s inbox, calendar, and key tasks into an organized overview. It not only summarizes but also prioritizes tasks and suggests next steps, highlighting the most important items. The Daily Brief is launching today for Google AI subscribers in the U.S.

The Gemini app, already used by over 900 million monthly users in 230 countries and available in more than 70 languages, is rebuilt with a new design language called “Neural Expressive,” featuring fluid animations, vibrant colors, new typography, and haptic feedback. Information is now highlighted in bold, followed by additional text and images as users scroll down.

Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent, assists users in managing their digital lives. It acts as an active partner, continuing to work in the background even when the phone is locked. Spark enables users to create custom workflows within the Gemini app. It is currently in testing and will be available next week for Google AI Ultra subscribers.

The new AI video model, Gemini Omni, integrates Gemini with Google’s generative media models for knowledge-based content creation. Users can generate consistent, high-quality videos by uploading audio, images, and video. By adding this model, Google intensifies the competition in multimodal content generation and AI-powered video tools. It is rolling out to Google Flow and YouTube Shorts for Google AI subscribers, supporting the company’s push into AI-driven content creation.
