The processor of the RG Rotate should be sufficient to run PS1 and N64 games on its square-screened handheld.

Following its sliding screen handheld launched last June, which some reviewers considered bulky, Anbernic has released more information on its new rotating screen handheld, designed to be more pocket-friendly. The RG Rotate, not known for its naming charm, will be available for preorder starting May 11th via the company’s online store. The polar black version, featuring a metal front with a plastic shell, will start at $87.99, as reported by Retro Dodo. A premium model with an all-metal body and silver finish is priced at $107.99.

A new unboxing video on the company’s YouTube channel showcases the RG Rotate with a 3.5-inch square LCD touchscreen display, offering a resolution of 720×720. Games from systems like the Game Boy and GBC should almost fill the screen, although those from console-connected systems or other handhelds like the GBA will display with borders or bars.

Running Android 12, the RG Rotate is powered by a Unisoc Tiger T618 Octa-core CPU, combined with 3GB of RAM, capable of emulating most 3D games from the N64 and PS1 eras, and a few less demanding GameCube titles. With the screen closed, the handheld remains operable with Anbernic suggesting it can serve as an MP3 player, utilizing Bluetooth connectivity to support wireless headphones like Apple’s AirPods. Battery life is projected to extend up to five hours, and Anbernic includes an additional set of swappable inner shoulder buttons with a raised design for easier tactile recognition.
